Wave solder fixtures offered by Datum are a complete design and manufacturing service for conventional open aperture wave solder fixtures and Selective Wave Solder fixtures which will help you improve the quality and productivity of your PCB assembly. For the PCB tooling industry wave solder fixtures also known as wave solder pallets or wave solder carriers, are frames made of fiberglass composite or titanium which are used to hold circuit boards with either through-hole components on the top of the board or glued-on surface mount components on the bottom of the board so that only the exposed components will be soldered. Wave solder fixtures are commonly used when bottom side components cannot be exposed to solder or in other instances such as for odd-shaped PCBs, when the board is too small, when edge components need to be clamped, or for incorporating alignment devices for holding components in place.
Wave solder fixtures are also used for multiple apertures, when many components need to be held down or orientated, or in selective carriers when Groundplanes and large NPTH have to be masked. When there is a need to deal with many changeovers or when there is a need for a wave soldering transport mechanism adjustable wave solder fixtures or wave solder carriers are also used. Selective Wave Solder fixtures also known as Accurate Exclusion Fixtures offer you the cost-effective benefits and quality of wave solder on assemblies that require solder or thermal protection. The Selective Wave Solder fixture is used on single sided PCB's that are require to be masked from the wave. The Selective Wave Solder fixture is a great alternative to hand masking using polyimide or kapton tape to mask features as it will help you cut costs in both materials and manual labor. In pioneering the use of gerber in designing Wave solder fixtures, Datum Dynamics became the first company to produce a conformal selective wave solder fixture thus eliminating the time consuming, cumbersome and often inaccurate process of Conformal masking done by hand.

At Datum Dynamics we have the expertise to help you with Wave Solder Fixtures and solutions that fit your equipment and manufacturing needs. We have extensive experience in solving customer's Selective Wave Soldering problems, derived from our unique design philosophy and from solving the problems of our diverse customer base. Datum can offer advice on the following:
Reducing or eliminating the need for glue dotting.
Accommodation of tall secondary side components.
Providing solder ability of Through Hole components directly adjacent to SMT components.
Clamping of primary side components during Wave Solder using a wide
range of methods from individual clamps to 'Top Hat' or 'Canopy'
solutions.
Providing 'Polarity Pins' which ensure components are placed with the correct orientation.
Using fixture design to control laminar and turbulent solder flow to enhance solder ability during the Wave process.
